  • Exhibits good communication skills

  • Capable of working with diverse groups and individuals

  • Trustworthiness, ability to keep confidences

  • Ability to devote adequate time to meet the commitments with your Mentee.

Responsibilities of a Mentor

  • Willingness to commit time and energy to the mentoring process

  • Assist in the development of the mentee’s and goals and actions to be pursued during the mentoring partnership

  • Commitment to working with the mentee to meet her/his goals

  • Take a leadership role and model the characteristics and behaviors of a leader

  • Provide constructive feedback to the mentee, and to The Man Project

  • Be open to feedback and suggestions for improving effectiveness as a mentor

Potential mentors/ volunteers are interviewed and carefully screened and must pass a background check as well as any additional school district background checks required.

All team leader participants are required to attend a 2-hour mentor orientation, pay a 15.00$ nonrefundable registration fee ( that goes towards the training package-materials given when facilitating the sessions) and receive ongoing feedback and training from TMP staff before and after the weekly sessions.

The group-mentoring model allows The Man Project staff to monitor and evaluate the mentor’s interactions with the boys. All group leaders are trained to spot signs of predatory behavior. We frequently discuss predatory behavior at group sessions and instruct boys and mentors to immediately report ANY concerns or inappropriate behaviors to TMP staff. Every meeting has at least one TMP staff member present.

We offer various resources where our program is available from math tutoring to freelance photography  As of now we are located in 3 schools in central Alabama.  If you are interested in having our program facilitated in your school, youth group or church or you just may want your child to be apart of the program in a one on one session, you can contact us  via email Tmanproject@outlook.com. We offer sessions in school when cleared by administration and small groups as well if individual sessions are needed.
